Creative education is a collaborative process between the learner and the teacher. It’s a complex activity encompassing the development of practical skills and creative thinking to articulate an evolving vision.
It involves observing & questioning, imagining & making, dreaming & planning, missteps & mastery. Students develop unique voices in shared spaces.
This year’s Douglas Street Campus end of year exhibition, titled “And & and”, showcases the abundant, varied and eclectic nature of the creative education offered at the college.
The exhibition coordinator, Ray Lonergan noted “Creativity pushes past the limits of an “either/or” mindset. Instead of choosing one thing at the expense of another, it opens the door to multiple possibilities, allowing ideas to coexist, combine, and continually evolve. So, you can have one thing, and another, and yet another, even if they appear incompatible at first glance. The exhibition showcases what is possible when individual voices and shared artistic spaces are combined, and what can be achieved when creative thinking and practical skills are aligned.”
Filmmaking, painting, graphic design, jewellery making, fashion and digital media are just some of the diverse expressions of creativity on display from the sixteen courses featured in the exhibition.
The exhibition is a free public event, offering everyone the opportunity to visit the Cork city-centre campus on Sawmill Street and experience the breadth and depth of coursework that students engage in throughout their year.
The exhibition is also open to the public on May 25th, May 26th and May 27th from 10am to 4pm.
